SX NOIR MANIFESTO
"We must decriminalise sex work, and this includes digital space"
The sex technologist wants to defund big tech and gain tech equity for femmes in sex tech
SX Noir’s story originally appeared in up + rising, a celebration of extraordinary Black voices, and is the first chapter of i-D's 40th anniversary issue (1980-2020).i-D chronicled over 100 activists and artists, musicians and writers, photographers and creatives, in Atlanta, Baltimore, Minneapolis, LA, London, New York, Paris and Toronto.
“I am a SX Noir, a thotful thot leader and sex technologist. Today I stand in front of you as a sex worker activist.
Historically Black sex workers have built a culture in the areas of music, fashion, beauty, sexuality, technology, LGBTQIA rights and women’s rights. As Black sex workers, we demand the acknowledgment and support for the advancements of our rights and contribution to the culture we navigate every day. Sex Workers are thot leaders and futurist and it is time for the community to show up for the most marginalised who lead the world's liberation.
I will fight for the rest of my life to defund big tech and gain tech equity for femmes in sex tech. Sex workers are at the center of virtual innovation, connection, and entrepreneurship. I believe the same way that racism and sexism exists in physical space it is echoing in digital space. I demand we stop using Black femme bodies for profit. We are not your slaves.
Sex workers are a criminalised people who society does not see as deserving of respect, privacy, security, or safe labor conditions and I say fuck that! We must decriminalise sex work, and this includes digital space.
We, as American citizens, have a right to the pursuit of happiness through social, emotional and financial upward mobility. We must fight for those who are trying to survive under capitalism. We must practice radical empathy and thofulness.
The revolution will not come with grace, and we are kind to give you mercy with peaceful protest.”
